California, Sonoma County – Russian River Valley
Ramey Wine Cellars is an acclaimed Californian winery founded by David Ramey, renowned for its blend of Californian wines with Burgundian traditions. The 2022 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a perfect example of this elegant style.
This wine comes from the famous Russian River Valley wine region of Sonoma County, which has a cooler climate and is an excellent growing region for Chardonnay. The wine is partially fermented and aged in French oak barrels, which gives it a rich texture and complex aromas while maintaining its freshness and elegance.
On the nose, citrus, white flowers, yellow apple, slight butteriness and subtle toasted almond notes.
The palate is full and creamy, yet with a lively acidity, peach, lemon zest, fine spices and a hint of minerality. Oak barrel ageing discreetly supports the fruitiness without overpowering it.
Recommended consumption temperature: 10-12 °C
Food pairing: grilled fish, seafood, poultry with creamy sauces, or even a richer pasta dish (e.g. tagliatelle with creamy mushroom sauce).
This Chardonnay is a complex, elegant and long-lasting wine in the Ramey style, which is still a nice experience, but could be further developed with a few years of bottle ageing.
