The uniqueness of Primitivo wines
When it comes to red wines, many people think of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Primitivo – a grape variety that doesn’t come from France, but from the sunny Italian countryside, specifically the Puglia region.

Italian viticulture has a history, and the area is particularly well suited to growing high quality grapes. Puglia is located in the south of Italy, at the corner of the ‘boot’.

Its vineyards are mainly planted with blue grapes. Primitivo is the first to ripen, hence the plant’s name. Interestingly, the same variety is also found in California, where it is known as Zinfandel.

Primitivo is easy to harvest, the water evaporates from the grapes as they ripen, making the fruit very tasty. There are several types of wine made from this grape, the lighter, fruitier flavours are popular, but the fuller bodied Primitivo wines are also very popular.

They are a great match for an Italian dinner, and can even be enjoyed with pizza. The Idea Rosa di Primitivo 2024 rosé is a real speciality: a big hit at parties.
What Primitivo wines are available?

This pack includes 18 pieces of Papale Primitivo di Manduria, with 4 Papallino as a gift. The exclusivity of the wines is that the grapes are hand-harvested and stored in small wooden boxes until processing to preserve their integrity.

The wine has the typical Primitovo flavour: notes of jam and wild blueberries are present in every sip. It is also perfect with game dishes.

A new addition to our range is the Appassimento Paralupi Magnum Puglia 2021, a blend ofMalvasia Nera, Negroamaro and Primitivo – another dry, full-bodied red wine. It can be served with beef, vadas, but also with tapas and pizza.
