Manduria

On the site you will find wines from the Manduria region, where the grape is called primitivo and the wine is delicious and a curiosity among red wines. Manduria is located in the south of Italy, in the province of Puglia, so the crops here get plenty of sunshine. Primitivo is harvested early to preserve the flavour of the grapes, which gives the full-bodied wines their distinctive character.

Our Mandurian wines are not just for Italian dinners: we also have unique pieces and can offer wine selections. Read the information on each drink’s data sheet and choose the bottle that suits your needs!

At Borsuttogó, you can choose from the finest drinks to suit your taste. We don’t offer dozens – as wine lovers, we’ve collected the most demanding drinks from the most renowned wineries.

We get products from all over the world – the most popular of course being Italian and French wines. The wines of Puglia, whether from Manduria or Salento, are justly famous. These two areas are close to each other: both grow the primitivo grape variety, which produces delicious wines.
Characteristics of Manduria
Manduria is an Italian town in the province of Puglia, in the Taranto region. Its geographical location is well defined: it lies in the western part of the boot heel, on the shores of the Ionian Sea. It is an excellent location for wine-growing: even the ancients had estates and wineries here.

Manduria wines are made from primitivo. This grape variety is known to ripen very early – hence its name: early ripening. It is identical to the American Zinfandel.

It is a blue grape that makes excellent, full-bodied red wines. They are also very spicy: red berries, tobacco and cinnamon are all present after a sip. Many people also experience jammy notes when drinking them.

Manduria has a Mediterranean climate, with iron-rich soils and many hours of sunshine, so the vines love it. The wind from the sea also blows diseases out of the plant.

Everyone should taste the typical wines of Puglia! From the Mandurian Primitivo to the Negroamaro grapes of Salento.
What selection of Mandurian treasures can you find here?
Our Primitivo wines are available in a variety of presentations, you can also choose by vintage. We recommend one of our premium products, the 6 litre Papale Primitivo di Manduria, a wine from the Varvaglione Winery in Puglia. Available in a wooden box, it can be an exclusive gift.

For wine lovers, retailers and home winery compilations, we offer the BS-TOP Primitivo di Manduria Riserva package, also in a decorative wooden box.

The Collezione Privata Primitivo di Manduria 2019, also from the Varvaglione Winery, can also be a special souvenir: made from selected grapes, it is a premium product.
What food does Manduria wine go with?
Red wines are particularly suited to wild game dishes, including the Primitivo, which has a special flavour. It is also an excellent choice for steaks and grilled meats, as well as for Italian dinners. It has a high tannin content and a silky, fruity taste. Alcohol levels can be as high as 13-16%.

For a tasteful serving, we can also provide you with a variety of accessories: glasses, a designed corkscrew or a decanter. Take part in one of our organised wine evenings, where you can taste some of the fine wines we sell, including Primitivo from the Manduria region! Please contact us if you have any questions!
