Want to serve an aperitif at a gathering of family or friends but don’t know what to choose? Verdeca is a great option. Feel free to serve it with Puglian cheeses, goat’s cheese or even fish dishes and seafood.
Join us to discover the grape variety that makes the great Marfi-Sauvignon Blanc Verdeca Puglia! One of Italy’s treasures, the birthplace of Puglia itself, the sunny corner of the Italian boot. It is not surprising that it is so rich in wine, yet it is often blended with wines from other grapes, as verdeca is rather ‘hard’ on its own.

Verdeca is a truly special
Although verdeca is often blended, it can also make good wines on its own, when it is characterised by minerality. Among white wines, verdeca wines have a special place because it is a very late ripening grape, and even in the hottest Italian regions it is characterised by high acidity and greenish vegetal notes.
It makes a great blend when paired with Sauvignon Blanc. This is exactly what happened with Marfi-Sauvignon Blanc Verdeca Puglia.
The Marfi-Sauvignon Blanc Verdeca Puglia
This lot has a protected geographical indication, which is often the case when it comes to verdeca. At 12% alcohol, it is the result of a blend of verdeca and sauvignon blanc, creating a balanced flavour.
This wine is the finest of the Varvaglione Winery and you will love every drop of it. The winery is a four-generation family winery, with over a hundred years of turning grapes into wine – for your enjoyment. They combine tradition with experience and state-of-the-art cellar techniques to create the finest wines.
This batch is named after Cosimo and Maria Teresa’s first-born daughter, Marzia Maria Filomena – hence Marfi.
It is made according to the Apulian tradition, i.e. the grape juice is softly pressed and fermented at 14 degrees. The temperature is constantly controlled and regulated while fermentation continues. Finally, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks to bring you the finished wine in bottles.
This batch is characterised by a straw yellow colour with greenish notes. The taste is dominated by citrus notes, especially lemon and lime, complemented by floral aromas and the inimitable flavour of wild fennel.
The balanced flavour and excellent acidity make it suitable to serve as an aperitif at a special dinner. But you can also serve it with seafood or fresh cheeses, and it goes well with the typical Puglian cheeses.
