Friulano 2020 DOC Collio

The Varvaglione Winery in Italy is a four-generation family business that has been making wine since 1921, exactly 100 years ago. Since its foundation, it has been constantly evolving, keeping in mind the values that are important to the family. Tradition, experience, state-of-the-art cellar techniques and the love of wine are the basis for the production of high quality wines.

The Varvaglione Friulano wine is made from 100% Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano) grapes from Collio, one of the most special white wine regions in the world, with protected values. It is the most northeastern corner of Italy, close to the Slovenian border. Grape growing is thriving here. A succession of sunny hills, slopes and terraces. The warm currents of the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding hills protect the vines from cold winds and excessive rainfall, ensuring hot but not stifling summers and mild winters. The soil is unique, with layers of marl and sandstone, which provide mineral and saline elements for the wines

The 2020 Friulano is a full-bodied and bold white wine. It has a brilliant gold colour with green hues. Delicate on the palate and nose, it is quite aromatic with floral and fruity notes. With aromas reminiscent of pastry cream, yellow wild flowers and almond liqueur, with a fresh taste of crisp and juicy apples. It is elegant on the palate, revealing the characteristic sweet and bitter almond flavours. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, which gives the wine structure and brings the varietal and mineral characteristics of this grape.

Overall, a dry and harmonious wine. Intense aromas, richness and good balance.

Perfect with smoked and fatty meat dishes, but also with seafood, hearty soups and pasta.
